Many animation purists don\u2019t consider motion-capture to be animation and fans of the \u201cTintin\u201d comics thought the approach was not in-keeping with the spirit of the book.  I quickly tired as the story contained little if any moral or importance and the dizzying action sequences blended together into what became a boring slurry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyfilmfix.com\/?attachment_id=2225\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2225\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyfilmfix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/12-31-11-Cars-2-201x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"12-31-11 Cars 2\" width=\"201\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dailyfilmfix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/12-31-11-Cars-2-201x300.jpg 201w, https:\/\/dailyfilmfix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/12-31-11-Cars-2-202x300.jpg 202w, https:\/\/dailyfilmfix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/12-31-11-Cars-2-400x595.jpg 400w, https:\/\/dailyfilmfix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/12-31-11-Cars-2-454x675.jpg 454w, https:\/\/dailyfilmfix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/12-31-11-Cars-2.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 201px) 100vw, 201px\" \/><\/a>The biggest surprise was the critical failure of \u201cCars 2\u201d from animation powerhouse Pixar.  The movie looked great, but the story was even less engaging than its predecessor.  It is extremely unlikely that Pixar will get an Oscar for their efforts and might even be closed out of the nomination race altogether.  This is even more likely given Spielberg\u2019s \u201cTintin\u201d could take a nomination despite an attitude against its style and animation techniques.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPuss in Boots\u201d was much better than anyone could have expected.  The spin-off from the \u201cShrek\u201d series was efficient and entertaining if not particularly emotionally engaging.  <\/p>\n<p>Cineaste\u2019s got their own animated family feature with \u201cRango.\u201d  That film was made with film critics in mind and with all the cinematic references scattered throughout, it sure helped if you had a working knowledge of classics like \u201cChinatown\u201d and their ilk.  <\/p>\n<p>Sequels went for piles of cash and, at least, one came up lacking as \u201cHappy Feet Two\u201d had a short domestic run.  It is important to note that \u201cHappy Feet\u201d actually did win the Oscar back in 2007.  Don\u2019t look for a repeat.
