Of \u201cThe Sound of Music,\u201d for instance, she said it was a \u201csugarcoated lie that people want to eat.\u201d<br><br>This review and other critical critiques of popular movies resulted in her dismissal from McCall\u2019s magazine. At the time, this was a very high profile gig for the budding film critic.<br><br>Her status as a film curmudgeon was epic. After all, who doesn\u2019t like \u201cLawrence of Arabia?\u201d Kael didn\u2019t. And in archived footage, we hear from \u201cLawrence\u201d director David Lean, who talks about how her attacks on his work impacted him.
