With preliminary estimates putting DATE NIGHT in the top spot, I’m waiting for afternoon numbers before I comment on the three-way struggle at metroplexes last weekend. If DATE takes the crown, which appears likely, it will be by the thinnest of margins but will attest to the value of the good old fashioned 2D format. 3D is more than a phase, however, but maximum return on the investment has to involve a story that’s more than just skin deep.
I’ll monitor the afternoon reports and give my thoughts later today or this evening.
