Rian Johnson’s “Oh Baby” music video is a thing beauty

A testament to finding the right combination of actors and story, Johnson’s music video for LCD Soundsystem’s single “Oh Baby” is a science fiction narrative starring Sissy Spacek and David Strathairn. I know I’m late the party on this one, but about a week ago, the director of “Looper” and “Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi” posted the music video that dropped last year to his Vimeo account.

In the video, Spacek and Strathairn play a couple developing a teleportation machine. Starting with a montage of mathematical notations made with pencil, the story moves as the couple build a computer and relocate. It’s a fascinating love story impressively shot and perfectly paced to the tune.

Spacek, who is always wonderful, just had a nice supporting role in the impressive “Homecoming” on Amazon Prime. And Strathairn will next be seen in Michael Dougherty’s “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” in May. And Rian Johnson is currently in post-production on “Knives Out,” a feature scheduled to be released in November.
