My daughter was buzzing this morning about “Gnomeo and Juliet,” the animated adventure set to his theaters just in time for Valentine’s Day. The concept based on the famous Shakespeare play sans iambic pentameter seems laughable–star-crossed garden gnomes get caught up in a feud between neighbors.
But if you take a closer look at the imdb credits page, you have to take the film seriously. The director is Kelly Asbury, whose previous directing credits include Oscar nominated movies “Shrek 2” and “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.” And the cast includes James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as the title characters and everyone from Michael Caine to Julie Walters lending their supporting voice talents.
