Being banned can be good for business. How? When you’re banned in Pakistan, the rest of the movie watching world takes notice.
The movie is “Slackistan” by Hammad Khan. A walking and talking twenty-something indie with a twist, “Slackistan” takes place in Islamabad, Pakistan. Focusing on a group of Westernized young adults attempting to find their way while partying in secret, the film was controversial enough to be completely censored in its home country. And that might be the biggest break for this small film that but for the setting and racial identity of its cast might be indistinguishable from any other slacker indie.
Maggie sent an email to the contact on the film’s website in an attempt to get us a screening copy for review, but in the meantime, I’ve embedded the official trailer below for your consideration.
